Market Manager in Training - Grand Rapids, MI Market
Circle K is a great place to work! We focus on our people and their development, providing the tools and resources needed for success. Our Market Manager in Training role is part of the Great Lakes Division, opening in the Grand Rapids, MI market.
Essential Functions- Maximize store sales through excellent customer service, product availability, merchandising, and exceptional store image inside and out.
- Provide information to store management by recapping promotional activity; reporting business opportunities, results, trends, and competitive information.
- Manage controllable costs by educating managers on procedures for controlling merchandise variation, managing salaries, overtime, cash, repair, and maintenance costs.
- Collaborate with the Marketing team to ensure promotions and new product introductions are fully implemented. Provide feedback to category managers regarding stock issues.
- Partner with vendors to ensure product availability and timely execution of monthly promotions. Ensure vendor performance and behavior are professional.
- Ensure store operations are profitable by managing cash and merchandise variation, salaries, and other controllable expense lines on the P&L.
- Ensure compliance with requirements by enforcing adherence to policies and procedures, and government regulations; enforce and monitor restricted sales policies; advise management of needed actions.
- Protect employees, customers, and company assets by maintaining a safe and secure working environment; enforcing safety practices; providing safety communication and training.
- Achieve financial objectives by forecasting requirements, preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
- Provide leadership and direction to store managers, including assistance in recruiting, selection, orientation, employee development and training programs; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results. Establish job expectations, provide coaching, administer counseling notices, initiate corrective actions, and implement non‑discriminatory management practices.
- Adhere to the Company Operating Policy of legal, ethical, and moral practices.
- Enhance professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, reading professional publications, establishing personal networks, or participating in professional societies.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing financial and key result area targets pursuant to company plan guidelines.
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred. Other combinations of job‑related experience and education that meet the requirements may be substituted.
- Three to five years of retail business experience or more preferred; including a minimum of two years of management responsibility.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, good communication skills, self‑directed, self‑motivated, and customer service oriented. Ability to communicate (orally and in writing) in English.
- Ability to supervise and train Store Managers in the use of store equipment, tools, and materials. Ability to supervise and manage the functions listed in the SM job description.
- Expertise with MS Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word preferred.
- A current valid driver’s license is required to operate a company vehicle.
