Overview
Structural Engineer (Buildings) – 4 to 10 years of experience. Ayres Associates’ structural engineers have proudly served government and private clients for more than 50 years. We are seeking an individual who is eager to learn and has the desire to become a well-rounded structural engineer. You will join a respected structural engineering group who will provide you with opportunities to work on a variety of projects.
This role is open to remote or hybrid opportunities.

On Any Given Day- Design a wide variety of new buildings and modifications to existing buildings.
- Work under the supervision of senior structural engineering staff to design and prepare plans for buildings and other structures.
- Perform structural design and analysis of steel, concrete, masonry, and timber structural elements using structural design software.
- Prepare and review structural drawings and details.
- Research and apply code requirements.
- Prepare technical reports and specifications for buildings and other structures.
- Assist with structural condition assessments and construction observation, potentially requiring sporadic short-term (typically 1–3 days) out-of-town travel and overnight stays.
- A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Good communication and listening skills.
- Minimum of 4 years of building design experience.
- Design experience in a variety of building types and materials.
- Strong knowledge of building codes (IBC, ASCE 7, AISC 360, ACI 318, etc.).
- Proficiency in a structural analysis software (RISA, RAM Structural System, RAM Elements, SAP
2000, or similar). - Proficiency in Mathcad and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with production of structural construction documents.
- Proficiency in modeling structures and producing construction drawings with Revit is beneficial, but not required.
- Working knowledge of seismic design is beneficial, but not required.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Self-motivated learner with a passion for advancing personal expertise in structural engineering.
- Master’s degree in structural engineering a plus.
