Introduction

The Wisconsin DNR is hiring 12 LTE (Limited Term Employee) Forestry Regeneration and Monitoring Technician positions across the State of Wisconsin. Potential workstations locations include:
Rhinelander, Prentice, Ashland, Park Falls, Minong, Cumberland, Hayward, Merrill, Medford, Wausau, Antigo, Wausaukee, Gresham, Peshtigo, Green Bay, Wautoma, Eau Claire, Black River Falls, Wi Rapids, La Crosse, Brule, Mellen and Baraboo.

Position Summary

These positions will work on the Forest Regeneration Monitoring project measuring the effects of deer browse and plant competition on seedling trees. The positions involve conducting regeneration measurements in several forest types, across multiple ownerships, and contacting landowners to obtain access to private lands. This position will require extensive travel across Wisconsin; therefore the selected candidate will be required to meet and maintain eligibility to drive a state vehicle.

Responsibilities
  • 80% Field Data Collection
    :
    • Conduct plot measurements of tree saplings and seedlings by species and height class.
    • Enter collected data into a tablet according to program standard operating procedures.
    • Travel time to and from plots and work station.
    • Understand and follow state statutes, agency rules, regulations, administrative codes, and program procedures at all times while collecting field data.
  • 20% Administrative Work
    :
    • Contact landowners to obtain permission to access private lands in accordance with state statutes, agency rules, regulations, administrative codes, and program procedures.
    • Perform data entry, quality assurance, and control according with agency standards.
    • Plan plot visits and access points efficiently with maps and GIS.
Salary Information

These positions pay between $20.50 – $23.50 per hour and are classified as Forestry Technician Advanced in pay schedule and range 06‑14. Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

Job Details

This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and will not automatically lead to permanent state employment or be entitled to the same benefits as permanent employees.
