Links Recruitment Group are pleased to be recruiting on behalf of our client, an International manufacturing client, who has an established operation based in Ebbw Vale. Our client is rapidly expanding and is now seeking an experienced Health and Safety Officer to join their growing engineering team.
The RoleResponsibility for supporting the company’s Health & Safety Management System, providing specialist advice on strategy, ensuring compliance requirements are highlighted and that the company is made aware of changes to Health & Safety legislation. Work with the management team on setting goals and objectives for year‑on‑year improvement.
Responsibilities- Maintenance and on‑going administration of the company’s Health & Safety Database detailing policy, responsibilities, accidents and incidents, risk assessments, legislation documents, COSH File, reports, procedures and all relevant Health & Safety documentation.
- Maintain register for Accidents & Incidents, complete accident & incident reports where applicable and submit RIDDOR reports to the contact centre as and when required.
- Carry out trend analysis for accidents and incidents to drive continuous improvement activities.
- Work with 3rd‑party support to ensure the system meets all legislative requirements and the system is fully operational.
- Fire Alarm Testing and Evacuation drills are performed routinely.
- Ensure routine inspection of system, detectors and emergency lighting is performed by 3rd‑party.
- Fire Extinguisher replenishment by 3rd‑party.
- Assist management in risk assessment for the control of equipment and activities within their respective areas; ensuring that Risk Assessments are performed and reviewed routinely and action items are worked on. Report to senior management any areas of high risk and non‑completion of agreed action items.
- Work with the management team and departments to review and establish safe systems of work.
- Organise and oversee compliance testing and inspections:
- Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) annually.
- Factory electrical certification 3 yearly.
- Thorough examination of lifting equipment and pressure vessels 6 monthly.
- Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems yearly.
- Modifications to electrical system on site are certified as and when required.
- Cold water storage tank cleaning & Legionella testing (annually).
- Interceptor Tank Cleaning.
- Organise and oversee occupational hygiene activities on site:
- Air Sampling.
- Noise Assessments.
- Vibration Monitoring.
- Oversee contract work being carried out on site ensuring risk assessments and method statements have been submitted prior to commencement of activity and Health & Safety Induction is carried out.
- Management of COSH File and carrying out COSH Risk Assessments, advising management of their responsibilities under COSH regulations.
- Organise and oversee 3rd‑party training for:
- First Aiders.
- Fire Fighters.
- Forklift Truck Drivers.
- FACT Air Equipment Use.
- Manual Handling.
- Work with management on developing arrangements for emergency procedures such as first aid, fire‑fighting and evacuation, spillage control.
- Responsible for inducting all new employees in company Health & Safety procedures.
- Other duties include:
- Selection and purchasing company workwear.
- Selection of PPE used on site.
- Advice to all employees on matters relating to Health & Safety.
- Work with various 3rd parties on matters relevant to Health & Safety.
- Work with management and others to establish a system of “Tool Box Talks” relating to raising health & Safety awareness.
- Implementing company‑wide audit plan for Health & Safety.
- Hours of work: 40 hours per week – Mon‑Thu 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (½ hour unpaid lunch);
Fri 8:00 am to 2:15 pm. - 20 days holiday + 8 bank holidays (increases with service).
- 6‑month probationary period.
- Reporting to Operations Manager with dotted line to Managing Director.
- Auto‑Enrolment Pension Scheme after 12 weeks.
- Degree or HNC level of education, minimum NEBOSH qualifications.
- At least five years’ experience working within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in a similar field within the automotive or off‑road vehicular environment would be an advantage but not essential.
