Job Title
Sr. Hardware Engineer – Cal Amp, Eden Prairie, MN
OverviewCal Amp is a connected intelligence company that empowers people to track, monitor, and recover vital assets in real time. We are looking for a Sr. Hardware Engineer with at least 5+ years of experience to join our team in Eden Prairie.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with project lead and a small team to develop product concepts and designs.
- Lead hardware development, from prototype design to debugging, validation, production release, and ongoing support.
- Document and perform unit tests to validate product features.
- Troubleshoot hardware and device issues, identify root cause and solution.
- Work with existing hardware designs to enhance performance.
- Maintain technical documentation and maintain best practices.
- Mentor less senior team members.
- 5+ years of hardware design & development experience.
- Hands‑on experience with electrical schematics and troubleshooting.
- Experience reviewing and guiding PCB layouts.
- Proficiency in design, assembly, and testing of prototypes, including debugging electrical hardware.
- Strong documentation skills: requirement specifications, design validation plans, detailed validation reports, DFMEA, etc.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and AI tools for technical documentation.
- Knowledge of test equipment such as meters, digital scopes, and communication analyzers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with wireless technologies (Cellular, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth).
- Experience with I²C, SPI, RS‑232, Ethernet, and USB interfaces.
- Experience with embedded 32‑bit and Linux hardware systems.
- Experience with automation programming (Python, etc.).
- Experience soldering fine‑pitch SMT components for prototyping and debugging.
- Knowledge of APQP principles and application to product development.
- Experience in high‑volume manufacturing and product development life cycle.
- Experience designing products to meet EMC regulatory requirements such as FCC/IC and CE.
