ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the strategy, planning, and tactical execution of all facets of electrical/electronic design, component selection, software systems design, and maintenance as it pertains to Dri Steem Products and Controls. Direct the integration of new systems and technologies across the model line‑up; develop systems and best practices to continuously improve electrical development processes and product quality; assist Quality group, Tech Support teams, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and post‑sale support.
Participate in cross‑functional teams to develop new products, features and to resolve field issues. Manage and hire staff and contractors.
- Manage electrical engineering group to deliver high-quality electrical and electronic solutions on time and within budget.
- Manage the team members to promote their overall engagement and career development opportunities.
- Support Manufacturing and Sourcing teams to ensure development aligns with strategy.
- Participate in key project milestone reviews including team meetings, design reviews, gate reviews, and project reviews as they pertain to electrical systems.
- Support corrective action (CAR) efforts with Quality and Tech Support groups.
- Report to product groups, management teams, and the Executive Leadership Team to keep them abreast of any industry trends and their implications for our markets.
- Track technology development and competitive product development trends to help identify and anticipate future opportunities and competitive threats.
- Provide guidance for annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting as it pertains to labor and expenses for the electrical and software team.
- Ensure all development activities, test data, and results are adequately preserved for future use.
- Provide guidance to domestic and international technology partners.
- Manage electromechanical system development including controllers, power circuits, and circuit protection from product request data.
- Provide test plans to ensure components and systems meet expected performance and reliability requirements.
- Understand and help develop electronic control systems to meet product requirements.
- Lead schematic capture, design, and development of control hardware/software effort for internal and external sourcing.
- Support external contract programming resources as required.
- Understand differences in North American and international safety requirements.
- Interpret domestic and international agency standards to facilitate acceptable design solutions.
- Design electrical systems to meet the requirements of international markets.
- Support product design and evaluation to ensure compliance with the required agency safety approvals process for international markets.
- Provide expert application knowledge of Electrical Engineering principles to design products such as HVAC equipment, machines, controls, instruments, etc.
- Serve as the company expert within the electronics and software area. Educate others on technical issues and opportunities.
- Ensure all processes are safe for employees, ergonomically correct, and comply with OSHA requirements.
- Continuously strive for product and process improvements that meet or exceed our customer requirements as well as being compliant with ISO policies.
- Keep the organization up to date on industry trends regarding their field of specialization.
- Attend required (internal and/or external) training and/or trade shows to maintain technical skills and industry experience.
- Foster a positive work environment by interacting with others in a manner to promote respect, trust, and good relationships with customers, clients, vendors, and co‑workers.
- Comply with any company safety and health rules and policies and promote safe work practices. Report any safety concerns to the manager.
- Ensure compliance with departmental guidelines and company standards.
