We are seeking a skilled Material Handler to join our weekend production shift at our Eden Prairie facility.

Work Schedule

• Weekend Days: 6 AM through 6 PM Friday through Sunday

Job Responsibilities And Duties

• Effectively supports production areas so that production output meets the production schedule.
• Move, wrap, band, and store materials in a safe, timely, and organized manner, accurately and efficiently.
• Ensures that all procedures are followed 100% of the time.
• Report continuous or major problems to Team Lead/Maintenance immediately.
• Effectively operator power equipment in a safe manner.
• Responsible for maintaining and improving production's portion of APEX's quality systems.
• Verify all pallet tags/paperwork for accuracy.
• Verify all pallet quantities match pallet tags.
• Verify sequential pallet creation.
• Understand and maintain a culture of "lean action" within the department so that we live lean better than any organization.
• Implement and maintain standards and processes that eliminate waste throughout the department.
• Apply and utilize "lean tools" to permanently implement improvements.
• Institutionalize 5-S in all aspects of the department. (Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain)
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualification and Skill Requirements

This position requires at least one year experience in material and product handling.

Operate all material handling equipment safely and efficiently.

Knowledge Requirements

To be effective, this position requires specific knowledge of material handling processes and material handling equipment. Person needs to understand or be capable of learning storing, and moving processes. Position also requires an understanding of auditing practices as it applies to cycle counting of materials. Basic math skills including counting, addition, subtraction, division and multiplication are required. Person needs to be able to use material handling equipment such as pallet jacks, scales, banding/strapping pallets, and pallet stretch wrapping machine.

Forklift license is required and maintained.

Technical Competencies

• Uses processes and technology to improve the quality and efficiency of service or production; follows processes well.
• Can maintain and grow technical knowledge and expertise. Can be accurate, precise and pay attention to detail.
• Has a "working" knowledge of personal computer operation. Proficient at Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2003 or higher.
• Can read and write in English at a high school level.
• Strong ability to decipher alpha-numeric numbering sequences related to item numbers and customer packaging requirements.
• Can read and follow specifications.

Work Requirement

This position may require some work hours beyond the normal workday based on the demands of the business cycle, customer volume of business, and specific sales efforts underway. It has a moderate to high demand for physical activity.

Physical Requirements

• Continuous (6 or more hours per day) bending, pushing, pulling, climbing stairs, reaching, lifting and grasping.
• Continuous (6 or more hours per day) standing and walking.
• Continuous (6 or more hours per day) talking, teaching, and repetitive motion, hand/wrist movement.
• Sensory requirements:
  Good eyesight, normal hearing, and fluent in the English language.

Working Conditions

• Will be exposed to various fragrances which at times may be at elevated levels.
• Moving and lifting objects, sometimes 50 lbs. frequently.
• Able to utilize stairways.
• Able to respond and adapt to changes in the work environment.
• Ability to work in a high paced work environment.
• Capable of operating various motorized and non-motorized material handling equipment.
• Computer literate with basic PC platform and understands basic office software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
