This role is responsible for the overall planning and organization of the Information Technology function for an entity of the UNC Health system. The director serves as the primary contact for entity leadership, supports the implementation of system-wide and entity-specific IT initiatives, and communicates with key stakeholders and operational functions.
Responsibilities- Communicate strategies, expectations and responsibilities to teammates, stakeholders and executive leaders; listen and address issues promptly.
- Collaborate with clinical leaders, physicians and administrators to understand technology needs and identify opportunities for improvements in patient care and operations.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships; act as a trusted advisor ensuring customers achieve desired outcomes with IT solutions.
- Influence and advance system strategies and roadmaps direct-level business analysis, communication, and policy administration.
- Align IT objectives with organizational strategic plans; assist in operating budget and capital requests; monitor financial performance to maximize value while maintaining quality and service.
- Consult and provide technical support on IT contracts; oversee project budgets and implementation.
- Participate in emergency response events; coordinate local technical response and recovery.
- Ensure compliance with system and external accrediting agency guidelines; maintain and communicate policies related to risks, compliance, security, privacy and architecture.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management or related field (or equivalent experience).
- No licensure or certification required.
- If a Bachelor’s degree: 8 years of related experience and 5 years of progressive management experience.
- If an Associate’s degree: 12 years of related experience and 5 years of progressive management experience.
- If a High School diploma or GED: 16 years of related experience and 5 years of progressive management experience.
- Strong communication, relationship‑building, strategic thinking, problem‑solving, leadership and team management skills.
- Lead cross‑functional teams and manage complex projects.
- Strong understanding of healthcare compliance, data security and IT governance principles.
