Position: PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Resident 2026-2027

Overview

PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Resident  zabeth Healthcare. This role builds on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm

D) education and PGY1 residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners in advanced practice areas. Residents who complete PGY2 programs are prepared for advanced patient care or specialized positions and board certification in the advanced practice area, if available.

Responsibilities
  • Pharmacy Operations:
    Compounds and dispenses pharmaceuticals with timely, accurate quantities and labeling; supervises compounding per USP standards; verifies ingredients, content, expiration dating, and appropriate labeling. Uses barcode technology to ensure accuracy. Supervises repackaging with verification of lot numbers, expiration dates and personnel involved. Performs required double checks when appropriate.
  • Controlled Substance Accountability:
    Participates in receipt, dispensing, and distribution of controlled substances; uses C-II Safe, CDARs, and related systems. Maintains accurate inventories, reconciles waste, and resolves discrepancies; provides activity reports to nursing; ensures compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Medication Use Safety Initiatives:
    Detects and reports dispensing variances; identifies opportunities to improve safe medication use (e.g., labeling, look-alike/sound-alike issues, EMR improvements); reports suspected adverse drug reactions; contributes to reducing medication errors.
  • Supervises and Directs Interns and Technicians:
    Provides supervision and mentoring per ICARE values; monitors task completion and staff interactions; participates in performance appraisals.
Clinical Pharmacy
  • Medication Order Verification:
    Reviews and interprets orders for completeness and appropriateness; assesses interactions, allergies, duplication; clarifies incomplete orders and provides therapeutic alternatives; performs secondary verification for pediatric and chemotherapy orders.
  • Therapeutic Clinical Monitoring:
    Monitors therapy per hospital protocols; optimizes therapy with prescriber consultation; documents assessments and interventions in patient charts and department monitoring forms.
  • Drug Information:
    Provides accurate drug information to medical staff, nursing staff, and patients; mentors interns; delivers education to hospital staff and patients; conducts in-service education.
  • Maintains Professional

    Competency:

    Maintains licensure and completes departmental competency assessments; stays current with pharmacy practice.
PGY2 Pharmacy Residency Program
  • Quality Improvement Research Project and Medication Use Evaluation:
    Complete a quality improvement project and a medication use evaluation to analyze and improve medication-use processes and practice.
  • Precepting:
    Provide training and feedback to learners; role-model preceptor duties.
  • Leadership:
    Demonstrate leadership to advance pharmacy services and professional engagement.
  • Program Recruitment:
    Assist residency leadership with recruitment of qualified Pharm

    D candidates who align with the program and organizational values.
Other Duties
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Credentials, Licenses
  • Must have completed an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency or be in the ASHP accreditation process.
  • Graduate or candidate for graduation of an ACPE-accredited degree program (or pursuing accreditation) or have FPGEC from NABP.
  • Eligible for Kentucky Pharmacist licensure.
Specialized Knowledge
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Familiarity with current Best Practice Standards (ASHP).
