Job Summary

The technician, under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and in accordance with all state and federal laws, assists with the selection, procurement, storage, preparation, record keeping, financial reconciliation, and dispensing of all medications dispensed to outpatients through Medical Village Pharmacy. Provides guided oversight and coordination of hospice, 3rd party claims, offsite facilities (Mubea, Aurora Casket, etc.), assists with Discharge Medication Delivery Service prescription filling and/or Specialty Pharmacy.

Monitors the inventory and ordering process. They must demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.

Job Description
  • Answer phone in a timely and courteous manner while complying with HIPAA.
  • Immediately greet customers in a warm and friendly manner as they enter the pharmacy and assist with their needs.
  • Solve issues that arise in a timely manner; documenting all relevant information on the patient’s record.
  • Assure that stock is in date by overseeing expiration date checking of assigned area as well as clean/organize pharmacy following the 5 Ss (Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain).
  • Monitor and track hospice prescriptions assuring proper documentation, accountability and adherence to procedure and state law.
  • Assist pharmacist in dispensing of medications in a timely and accurate manner. Understand the intricacies of third‑party billing, adjudication and assist the pharmacist or patients in resolving issues in this process.
  • Assist with the ordering and delivery process. Understand and can complete orders from wholesaler, including placing order, receiving order, checking in the order, accounting for variance of items ordered and items received, and putting on shelves using First In, First Out method and sound accounting principles.
  • Understand unique programs offered and assist with prescription filling. These include Discharge Medication Delivery Service, Meds to Beds, Social Service prescriptions and other services such as immunizations.
  • Successfully receive, order and dispense off‑site business partners medication requests. Understand the process used for each business (MD Scripts, Packedge, and or Microsoft Excel Labels).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Credentials, Licenses
  • High School Graduate or equivalent GED
  • PTCB or NHA certification
  • BOP Registration in state where work is being performed per state regulations
Specialized Knowledge
  • Critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Customer service skills and reflect the ICARE attitude.
  • Understanding of Metric system.
  • Typing and computer knowledge including Microsoft Excel.
  • Understanding of Metric system and Rx calculations
  • Medical terminology
  • Know brand and generic medication names for the top 100 drugs as well as drug schedule. Must pass written exam with minimum grade of 80%.
Desirable
  • Inventory management experience.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Proficient in multiple languages.
  • MTM billing.
  • Medicare B billing.
  • 340B Purchasing Program knowledge.
  • Prescription prior authorization submission experience
  • 3 months retail or specialty pharmacy experience.
