The Medical Assistant provides clinical support to the physician and mid-level providers. The role includes patient instruction as directed by providers. Responsibilities also involve compliance with OSHA/CLIA and HIPAA regulations and ensuring completion of all duties vital to business operations. The Medical Assistant is a highly visible position that continuously creates a positive impression with patients, families, and visitors to the office.
Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors, and other employees regardless of cultural background.
- Prepares patients for exam and acquires vital signs, weight, general history, and current medication list when required.
- Provides patient care and clinical support to provider during exam, including acupuncture needle removal, application of stimulator, needle count, venipuncture, injections, and EKGs.
- Documents all clinical findings and patient responses to interventions (history, medications, vital signs, weight, and testing results).
- Collects and provides to the provider the completed Laboratory/test findings intake form, physician referral information, diagnostic imaging, or cardiopulmonary test results as they become available.
- Provides instruction to patients under the direction of the provider.
- Maintains adequate level of supplies in exam rooms and workstation, cleans and disinfects exam rooms, and reports malfunction of equipment to department supervisor.
- Assists the Clerical Coordinator/Registrar as needed, including referral process, outpatient testing, pre-certification, and scheduling.
- Ensures timely and accurate collection and distribution of all patient information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED.
