Position: Bus Monitor (Edinburg, TX) $14.32/HR

Bus Monitor Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily child health observation to determine child health status or injuries for children boarding the bus.
  • Obtain and secure child medications for proper pickup and delivery utilizing safe handling procedures and documenting such activities appropriately.
  • Responsible for safety and supervision of children during transportation, including securing children in appropriate safety restraints prior to departure, monitoring them throughout transportation, securing “Red Bags,” and loading/unloading of children from the bus following Transportation policies and procedures.
  • Assist Bus Driver during emergencies and evacuation drills and ensure the vehicle is maintained in a sanitary condition.
  • Implement, monitor, and enforce bus rules during transportation, provide educational activities as part of school readiness, and provide feedback to teaching staff/coordinating staff regarding observed behaviors/development during bus activities.
  • Act as a liaison between parents and center staff regarding center activities, child issues, and upcoming program events based on the PFCE Framework.
  • Provide child engagement through activities such as singing, fingerplays, stories, and positive conversations based on the HSELOF.
  • Ensure all children are properly released from the school bus to the parent, guardian, and/or designated person as documented in the child’s file.
  • Provide short‑term relief (breaks) to classroom staff when supervised by a qualified teacher; coverage is contingent on prior training and qualifications.
  • Provide interpretation services in the classroom while assisting with coverage, at home visits, and Parent/Teacher conferences.
  • Assist in fulfilling staff/child ratios in classrooms, kitchen duties, or other areas of the center as assigned, when a staff member is absent; coverage requires prior training and qualifications.
  • Assist the Bus Driver/Janitor in cleaning and maintaining the building and playground as needed.
  • Transport and supervise children and parents during parent meetings, field trips, health clinic visits, and as assigned.
  • Participate in trainings for serving children with disabilities or special needs (e.g., wheelchairs, special car seats, allergies) per child’s IEP and/or IFSP.
  • Assist in ongoing recruitment plan activities, including recruitment of children with disabilities.
  • Provide support or T/TA to other locations (centers) with some travel requirements.
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings and other program activities as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Be 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED (dependent on each state’s childcare licensing requirements).
  • A CDA credential is preferred and/or must enroll in the CDA for classroom coverage.
  • Ability to work irregular and flexible hours.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred – both oral and written.
  • Have dependable transportation to and from work.
