About the Role

A Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) under the supervision of faculty and/or staff may assist with various lab‑related tasks, provide guidance to students on lab processes, protocols, and safety, and support laboratory operational needs such as prep and set up. GTAs offer professional laboratory teaching assistance under direct supervision. Work schedules vary based on department needs.

Responsibilities
  • Provide general assistance to faculty members in instructional activities, including taking attendance and monitoring students.
  • Repeat the instructor’s instructions for the lab or review the instructor’s lecture PowerPoint if lab groups are separated by walls or space.
  • Proctor examinations, grade tests, assignments, and post‑lab assessments.
  • Facilitate discussion groups and group projects.
  • Assist the lab instructor with student support in the lab, including interaction, technique demonstration, and reinforcing concepts introduced in lectures and labs.
  • Assist faculty and the Lab Manager in lab preparation and clean‑up, including preparing chemical solutions/buffers, autoclaving/sterilizing materials, preparing microbiology plates or slants and cultures, and gathering materials and equipment for BMED labs.
  • Enforce laboratory rules and procedures while interacting with students and serve as a positive and professional role model.
  • Maintain professional interactions with students, staff, faculty, and supervisors; submit biweekly reports to the direct supervisor and attend meetings as scheduled.

  • Knowledge of higher education teaching principles and practices.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities and time management.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, coordinating activities, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a collegial working relationship with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Skill in using a personal computer and related software applications.
Compensation

Salary: $1,250 monthly.

Number of vacancies: 2.
