Scope of Job

To provide guidance to high school students on college exploration, establishing college plans, and assisting in admissions, financial aid, and registration. To plan, implement, and evaluate intentional services that promote post‑secondary access and success.

Responsibilities
  • Serve in a hybrid (in‑person and virtual) capacity as a college adviser to increase college preparation and enrollment rates.
  • Provide services on a one‑on‑one basis and in group settings; coordinate workshops and experiences to raise college awareness and promote the importance of post‑secondary education.
  • Assist students with searching and applying for colleges using the program’s best‑match and fit model.
  • Guide students through financial aid and scholarship searches, application preparation, and the transition from high school to college.
  • Consult with university supervisors and partner school personnel to meet each school’s needs; adapt service delivery accordingly.
  • Help students and families/guardians complete essential transition processes such as college planning, entrance and placement exams, application submission, financial aid, and college selection.
  • Conduct workshops for students and parents on a variety of topics to ensure college readiness.
  • Maintain professional, customer‑service oriented communication with students, families, and high school partners.
  • Provide virtual advising support via text, email, video, instant messaging, screen/document sharing, and telephone.
  • Maintain an online presence (social media, website, blog) to communicate reminders and announcements.
  • Collect, enter, and maintain student and program data in the College Advising Corps’ (CAC) GRACE database; describe advising services delivered.
  • Apply GRACE to produce weekly data reports tracking progress toward CAC’s KPIs and program goals; generate additional reports as requested.
  • Participate in online discussions on the GRACE Discussion Board; serve as a resource to peers by sharing helpful tools.
  • Attend pre‑ and in‑service staff development trainings, adviser meetings, national meetings, and CAC trainings (overnight travel may be required).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Service experience with first‑generation college students and/or students from underserved backgrounds (college admissions, advising, mentoring, customer service, or higher education).
  • Near‑peer to the high school students served; college graduate within the past three (3) years from a Texas institution.
  • Experience working with first‑generation or underserved students in admissions, enrollment services, financial aid, registrar, admissions, recruiting, or related fields (preferred).
  • Authorized to operate a University‑Owned Vehicle for official university business; subject to a 36‑month motor vehicle record check.
  • Eligibility to serve as an Ameri Corps member.
