Scope of Job

Enforces NCAA and UTRGV academic and eligibility policies, and communicates curricular and programmatic requirements to students and advisors to facilitate progress toward, and timely completion of, academic goals. Responsible for certifying student-athletes’ eligibility for practice and competition in accordance with conference and NCAA regulations.

Description of Duties
  • Certifies eligible UTRGV student-athletes for participation in NCAA athletics.
  • Monitors student-athletes’ degree progress.
  • Collaborates with Athletic Department personnel to effectively communicate student-athletes’ eligibility for practice and competition in accordance with NCAA bylaws.
  • Audits degree plans for student-athletes to track progress toward degree completion.
  • Communicates degree requirements and deficiencies to students and advisors for student-athletes approaching graduation.
  • Provides training and support to athletics advisors specific to student-athletes’ progress toward degree and curricular requirements.
  • Enforces UTRGV academic policies and ensures that exceptions to policy are appropriately approved and documented.
  • Assists incoming freshmen and transfer student-athletes with registration during orientation programs.
  • Ensures that student-athletes’ curricular records and degree plans are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Develops, cultivates, and maintains positive working relationships with Athletics staff, faculty members, advisors across campus, and students including prospective and current student athletes.
  • Clarifies degree requirement concerns and issues with Athletics staff, advisors and faculty members.
  • Attends NCAA rules meetings upon request to remain abreast of rule changes and eligibility standards.
  • Provides regular reports and status updates to University Registrar.
  • Assists as needed with internal and external audits relative to NCAA certification.
  • Regularly updates desk manuals and/or procedures for managing the student athlete population.
  • Assists with commencement ceremonies.
  • Assists with registration tasks and enrollment initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervision

General supervision from Assistant Registrar for NCAA Certification.

May supervise assigned support staff.

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

Preferred Education

None.

Licenses/Certifications

None.

Required Experience

Two (2) years of experience in student admissions, registration or closely related area.

Preferred Experience

Experience working with student-athletes and knowledge of NCAA eligibility and regulations.

Equipment

Use of standard office equipment. Knowledge of student information system, preferably Campus Solutions, from People Soft, preferred.

Working Conditions

Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office environment; some travel and weekend work is required.
