Scope of Job

We are seeking an energetic filmmaker with a solid post‑production background to join us in creating a BFA in Film Production! The Theatre Department at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley ( UTRGV ) seeks applications for a tenure track/ professor of practice position in film production to start Fall 2027. With over 100 film track students in the theatre department film concentration, we need an innovative leader to create courses and teach our students the valuable skills needed to secure a working position in the film industry.

Early teaching emphasis will be in the editing area, with the chosen candidate expanding their area to include other courses in production and post‑production. The successful candidate will have a record of production/ creative work that specifically illustrates expertise in film production. The current teaching load includes teaching courses in our film video track, including but not limited to:

• Film and Video Editing I
• Film and Video Editing II
• Introduction, Intermediate and Advanced Film and Video Production
• The right candidate will also have the opportunity to create new courses in post‑production, cinematography and sound.

Other courses in film as assigned by the Department Chair and/or Dean of the College, such as history and significance of film history, documentary film production and cinema appreciation are also possibilities. The successful candidate will be given the standard academic teaching load of 3/3 tenure track faculty. Assignments will be given by the Department Chair or Dean of the college.
