Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY:
Manages the reprocessing cycle for surgical instrumentation, including disassembly, decontamination, disinfection, inspection, testing, assembly, packaging, labeling, high level disinfection, and sterilization. Cares for and operates ultrasonic cleaners, washers, sterilizers, and other equipment. Completes quality monitoring and documentation. Picks supplies and instruments to prepare case carts for surgery. Performs quality assurance activities. Is responsible for supply inventory management and clinic instrument rounds.
Is responsible for mentoring, training, coaching, and role modeling of new Sterile Processing Techs. Serves a leader for the department to promote teamwork within the department and with other departments.
Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word), various applications related to instrument management (Censis, One Source).
Skills:
Due to the highly technical nature, especially related to interpretation of manufacturer’s Instructions for Use (IFU), ALL SPD staff must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Required:
Certification as Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) formally known as International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) through Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) is required. Additional two certifications listed below, must be acquired by new employees or current employees grandfathered into the role within two years:
Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) and Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) through HSPA or Certified Surgical Instrument Specialist (CSIS) and Certified in Sterile Processing Management (CSPM) through CBSPD. Certifications must be maintained as a term of employment.
