Carpenter II

Responsibilities

• Perform (journey-level) carpentry work under general supervision.
• Perform skilled maintenance carpentry work at county facilities.
• Operate various power saws, drills, buffers, grinders, sanders, etc.
• Fabricate wooden accessories, cabinets, tables, shelves, display cases, frames, moldings, railings, etc.
• Hang sheetrock, tape and float, textured sheetrock.
• Read profiles and blueprints.
• Repair and replace door locks and knobs.
• Replace glass on doors and windows.
• Fabricate furniture as requested by department.
• Operate wood working machines: shaper, jointer, router, planer.
• Use measuring tapes, transits, levels.
• Operate pneumatic nail guns and staplers, etc.
• Record data in forms/logs based on projects requested or work activities.
• Perform related work as assigned.

• Graduation from a high school.
• One (1) year of experience as a journeyman carpenter.
• Some vocational training preferred.

• Must have a current valid Texas motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Must be able to be insured by the County’s insurance carrier.
• Knowledge of materials, equipment, and procedures used in carpentry.
• Knowledge of applicable building codes.
• Ability to estimate costs, time, and materials need for projects.
