Location: City of Edinburgh

We’re ICAS – a global professional membership organisation and business network for Chartered Accountants. We’re an educator, regulator, examiner, and a professional awarding body. Our smart and talented team comes from all walks of life. With a relaxed dynamic and a collaborative spirit, we take care of each other while supporting a vibrant, global membership.

Belong to a close team with big influence.

What’s the job?

This is a great opportunity to join our Finance team as Sales Ledger Controller, playing an important role in overseeing and controlling income recognition, reconciliation and sales ledger activity across ICAS and the ICAS Foundation.

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will be responsible for the control and processing of sales transactions, ensuring income is accurate, complete and recorded effectively. You will also support strong cash inflow through quality reporting, planning and debtor management activity.

A key part of the role will be helping us make the most of our new finance system, building on its capabilities to drive continuous improvement, strengthen processes and support efficient ways of working across the team.

You will work closely with internal finance and operational colleagues, as well as customers and stakeholders across our wider external customer base.

What will you be doing?

In this role, you’ll take ownership of day‑to‑day sales ledger activity, helping ensure income is accurately processed, reconciled and reported across ICAS and the ICAS Foundation. You’ll work closely with colleagues across Finance and the wider organisation to support strong cash flow, effective debtor management, timely query resolution and continuous improvement in our finance processes.

  • Oversee sales ledger processing, including income posting, invoices, refunds, credit notes, Direct Debit activity and credit card transactions.
  • Manage accounts receivable queries and work with colleagues, customers and stakeholders to resolve payment and invoicing matters effectively.
  • Support cash flow and debtor management through accurate reporting, aged debt monitoring, escalation activity and regular debtor review meetings.
  • Maintain accurate reconciliations and reporting, including monthly balance sheet reconciliations, year‑end support and sales ledger input for audit activity.
  • Support continuous improvement by keeping process notes current, reviewing coding or system issues, and helping strengthen sales ledger controls and ways of working.
  • Provide wider Finance team support when required, including ICAS Foundation transactions, inter‑entity transfers and ad hoc finance activity.

We’re looking for someone with solid sales ledger and credit control experience, who brings accuracy, confidence and a proactive approach to their work.

You will bring demonstrable experience in sales ledger and credit control activity, with great attention to detail and the ability to manage your own workload effectively.

You’ll also be comfortable working with finance systems and Microsoft Office, and confident communicating clearly with colleagues, customers and other stakeholders.

Someone who can take initiative where appropriate, you will be able to work through queries carefully and contribute to process improvements. Experience of supporting systems or process changes would be particularly useful, as would a foundation level accounting qualification such as CAB or AAT.

Most importantly, you’ll bring a practical, organised and customer‑focused approach, with the ability to work collaboratively across Finance and the wider organisation.

What you get?

As well as ICAS being a great place to work, with great people and an open and accessible executive team, we also offer a competitive salary, and generous staff flex benefits package which includes:

  • Private medical insurance
  • 35 days annual leave with option to purchase additional holiday
  • Pension (9% employer contribution)
  • Your birthday day off
  • Life assurance
  • Health care and screening
  • Dental care
  • Electric Vehicle Scheme
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Annual individual learning allowance to spend on personal development

ICAS places equality, diversity, and inclusion at the heart of all that we do. With our partner organisations, we are committed to building a diverse membership and workforce that is beneficial for all, and that enables our communities to learn, grow and advance together.

Please note we are not an institute that can provide sponsorship, therefore a valid right to work in the UK is required for this role.
