The Opportunity This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Trust Accountant to join a specialist team with responsibility for preparing and coordinating accounts for trusts, executries and charitable entities.
The role offers significant scope for development and would suit an individual looking to take the next step in their career. Previous supervisory experience would be advantageous, however candidates with strong technical expertise and an ambition to lead and develop a team will also be considered. Working closely with legal, tax and external advisory professionals, you will play an important role in delivering high-quality accounting services while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and support the ongoing development of trust and charity administration processes.
Key Responsibilities Prepare and coordinate trust, executry and charity accounts from inception through to completion. Audit, review, edit and compare trust accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance throughout the accounting process. Determine and reconcile opening balances using previous accounting records and supporting documentation. Collate financial information from a variety of sources to facilitate the preparation and completion of periodic accounts. Reconcile trust cash accounting records and investment registers as part of the accounting process.
Liaise with tax specialists to establish tax retentions and reconcile trust tax positions where required. Work closely with legal teams, investment managers and external professional advisers regarding periodic accounting requirements. Support the administration of trusts, charities and related client structures where appropriate. Identify opportunities to streamline accounting, reporting and administration processes through the effective use of business systems. Provide guidance and support to junior team members and contribute to the future development of the Trust Accounts function.
Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality when handling sensitive client and financial information. Ensure all work is delivered efficiently, accurately and in a cost-effective manner. Candidate Profile Essential Skills & Experience Strong accounting experience with a particular focus on trusts and executries. Experience preparing accounts from initial information gathering through to finalisation. Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy when working with complex financial information.
Strong analytical and reconciliation skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships. Strong organisational and time management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel. Commercial awareness with an understanding of delivering efficient and cost-effective client service. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Desirable Previous supervisory or team leadership experience. Experience working within a legal, accounting or wider professional services environment. Knowledge of charitable trust accounting and charity administration. Experience working closely with legal, tax or wealth management professionals.
