We are seeking an enthusiastic ACCA or AAT student, trainee or accountancy apprentice to join our team and gain valuable experience within our accountancy practice.
The role will provide hands-on exposure to bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and year-end accounts, working with real client accounts.
An opportunity to develop your practical accountancy skills
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated ACCA student or trainee, AAT student, or accountancy apprentice who is keen to gain practical experience within a professional accountancy practice and develop their skills alongside their studies.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone at the early stages of their accountancy career who wants to gain hands‑on experience across a range of accounting functions and understand how the knowledge gained through their studies is applied in practice.
The roleWorking alongside our experienced team, you will gain practical exposure to a variety of areas, including:
- Bookkeeping for a range of clients
- Preparation and submission of VAT returns
- Payroll processing and related payroll administration
- Bank reconciliations and maintaining accurate accounting records
- Assisting with client bookkeeping and accounting queries
- Gaining an understanding of the year-end accounts preparation process
- General accountancy practice procedures
- Working with client records and developing an understanding of the relationship between bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and year-end accounts
The role will provide increasing responsibility as your knowledge, confidence and experience develop.
Accounting softwareOur primary accounting platform is Xero, and you will gain substantial practical experience using the software.
You will also have exposure to Free Agent and Quick Books, where required for particular clients.
About youWe are looking for someone who:
- Is currently studying ACCA or AAT, undertaking an accountancy apprenticeship, or is otherwise pursuing an accountancy qualification
- Is keen to pursue a long-term career in accountancy
- Has a genuine interest in developing practical accounting skills
- Is willing to learn and take on new responsibilities
- Has good attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
- Is organised, reliable and able to meet deadlines
- Has good communication skills and is comfortable working as part of a team
- Is able to work independently once trained
- Has a positive attitude and a willingness to ask questions and learn from experienced colleagues
Previous experience within an accountancy practice would be advantageous but is not essential. We are particularly interested in someone with the right attitude, commitment and enthusiasm to develop.

You will work with real client information and gain an understanding of the accounting cycle, from day-to-day bookkeeping through to VAT and payroll, with exposure to the preparation of year-end accounts.
