Location: City of Edinburgh

Job Purpose

To provide a friendly, professional and welcoming reception service to residents, families, visitors and staff during weekends. The role involves managing reception duties, handling enquiries, maintaining accurate records and supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the care home.

Key Responsibilities
  • Welcome residents, relatives, visitors and professionals in a warm and respectful manner.
  • Answer and direct telephone calls, take messages and respond to general enquiries.
  • Manage visitors entering and leaving the care home, following the home's security and safeguarding procedures.
  • Receive and distribute post, deliveries and correspondence.
  • Provide administrative support to the care home manager and weekend staff.
  • Assist with appointments, meetings and general diary management where required.
  • Handle confidential information appropriately and maintain residents' privacy and dignity.
  • Report any concerns regarding residents, visitors or the premises to the appropriate member of staff.
  • Follow the care home's health and safety, safeguarding, infection-control and confidentiality policies.
  • Provide a professional and reassuring presence at reception, particularly for residents' families and visitors.
  • Liaise with care, nursing, domestic, kitchen and management teams to help ensure effective communication.
  • Carry out general reception and administrative duties as required.

  • Good telephone and customer-service skills.

  • Understanding of confidentiality and the importance of safeguarding vulnerable adults.
  • Previous reception, administration, customer-service or care-home experience is desirable.
Working Pattern

Weekend position, with shifts typically covering Saturdays and Sundays. Flexibility may be required to meet the needs of the care home.
