Scottish Bookbindings Project Cataloguer

Overview

We’re looking for someone to join our Published Collections team to improve the catalogue descriptions of the Library’s extensive holdings of decorative Scottish bookbindings from approximately . This work will improve access for researchers and lay the groundwork for potential digitisation by describing the relevant features of these bindings. Examples of the styles of bookbinding involved can be seen at

• Improve catalogue descriptions of decorative Scottish bookbindings (c. 1680–1830) to support access for researchers and enable potential digitisation.
• Describe relevant features of bindings with accuracy and clarity for MARC cataloguing.
• Ensure preservation requirements of the books handled are respected during description.

• Experience cataloguing published materials in MARC using a library management system.
• Experience working with rare books is desirable.
• Ability to work efficiently while accurately recording relevant details and paying due respect to preservation requirements.
