Overview

Parliamentary Access and Response Officers - Security Office

  • Salary range: £35,453 to £38,324 per annum (including shift allowance of 12.5%, which is pensionable)
  • Contract:

    Permanent and Pool Recruitment
  • Location:

    Hybrid working from Holyrood, Edinburgh and from home
  • Leave: 41.5 days (including public holidays)
  • Working Pattern:
    This is a full-time post working 37 hours; however, we will move to a 35-hour working week on 1 March. We’re committed to supporting staff to achieve a healthy work-life balance.
  • Pension:
    Although not a civil service employer, we offer civil service pension arrangements with an employer contribution of 28.97% of basic annual salary
  • Clearance Required:

    CTC security clearance will be processed at job offer stage

The Security Office is responsible for protecting the Parliament building, pass holders and visitors and preventing disruptions to Parliamentary proceedings. We provide a visible and reassuring presence throughout the building 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Office also provides security advice to Members and their staff.

To be successful you will be experienced in providing a high level of customer service within a public facing role. You’ll be resilient and confident, used to dealing with a diverse range of people, often under challenging or difficult circumstances. You’ll have an awareness of the importance of creating positive impressions of the Parliament and the impact this has on the public perception of the organisation.

You’ll be alert and observant, have excellent communication skills and be a strong team player.

You’ll also be able to meet the demands of shift working, including working regular weekends and nights. The completion of regular physical fitness assessments is a requirement for the role to ensure alarms and incidents are responded to quickly and efficiently.
