Architectural Technologist

Are you an experienced Architectural Technologist who enjoys taking ownership of projects rather than being handed one narrow package after another? I’m working with a well-established, multidisciplinary property consultancy in Edinburgh that is looking to strengthen its busy architectural team.

This is a strong opportunity for a technically capable Technologist who wants varied work, genuine responsibility and access to expertise beyond a traditional architecture studio. You’ll collaborate with architects, building surveyors, planners, project managers, sustainability specialists and other property professionals, giving you a broader view of each project and the commercial thinking behind it.

The team works across a varied portfolio spanning commercial, residential, industrial, education, leisure and public-sector projects. Depending on your experience, you’ll be involved from the initial client brief through design development, planning and building warrant stages, technical delivery and construction. You’ll produce accurate, coordinated drawing packages, resolve technical issues, liaise with clients and consultants, and help keep projects moving on programme.

This role needs someone comfortable running jobs with a good understanding of contract administration responsibilities. You should have at least five years’ relevant experience and be able to demonstrate that through a clear project portfolio. Strong AutoCAD skills are essential, alongside good working knowledge of Autodesk Revit and an understanding of BIM processes. Knowledge of Scottish Building Standards, planning procedures and construction detailing will be important, as will the confidence to communicate with clients, statutory authorities, contractors and multidisciplinary teams.

You don’t need to be the loudest person in the room, but you should be organised, commercially aware and willing to take responsibility. The right person will combine sound technical judgement with a practical approach to problem-solving. You’ll care about the quality of your information, spot coordination issues early and understand that successful delivery relies just as much on communication as it does on good drawings.
