Would you like to be part of a welcoming and forward-thinking school community where children are supported to become resilient and ambitious learners, who are kind, confident and proud of their own unique talents and interests?

At St Peter's Primary School, our values are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to nurturing children who develop resilience, ambition and a love of learning, while also learning to show kindness to others and to themselves. We celebrate individuality and believe that every child brings their own strengths, interests and creativity to our school community.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated P1 Teacher to join our creative and supportive staff team. This post offers an exciting opportunity to work within a stage where play-based pedagogy and outdoor learning are central to supporting children's early development and wellbeing.

As part of our team, you will:

  • Plan and deliver high-quality learning experiences that support play-based learning and meet the needs of children in P1.
  • Create a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment that helps children develop resilience, confidence and independence.
  • Encourage ambitious learning by fostering curiosity, creativity and a positive attitude to challenge.
  • Recognise, value and build upon children's individual talents, interests and strengths.
  • Make purposeful use of outdoor learning to enhance play, exploration and cross-curricular learning.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues, rooted in kindness, respect and care.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to plan, reflect on and adapt learning experiences to support all learners.
  • Contribute positively to the wider life, ethos and improvement of St Peter's Primary School.

We are looking for a teacher who:

  • Brings warmth, enthusiasm and creativity to their teaching.
  • Has a genuine interest in early years practice, particularly play-based approaches.
  • Values outdoor learning and is keen to use the school environment to enrich learning.
  • Is reflective, flexible and enjoys working as part of a collaborative and enthusiastic team.
  • Is committed to developing resilient, ambitious and kind learners.
  • Shares our belief in celebrating individuality and supporting every child to achieve their full potential.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a caring school community that values teamwork, professional learning and wellbeing. At St Peter's Primary School, you will be supported to grow as a practitioner while helping children develop the skills, confidence and attitudes they need for lifelong learning.

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required.

You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we're bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.
