Grade UE06: £34,610 - £39,906 per annum pro-rata as part-time (£18.96 – £21.87 per hour)

Guaranteed Hours (GH role): 50 hours minimum

The Opportunity

Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI) has developed an ambitious and inventive suite of interdisciplinary, Undergraduate courses which will run in the 2026-27 academic session. The courses are highly interdisciplinary and aim to educate students for complex futures in which computational data, critical understanding and creative methods are essential to employability and the ability to take a confident place in the world. You should be committed to EFI’s innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and keen to become part of our forward-thinking, cross-University academic community.

This role will generally involvecontributing to elements of teaching within a clear and established programme, by provision of tuition to groups of undergraduate students on specific subject areas of a course. A key purpose of the role is to stimulate discussion and debate amongst students in order to further the understanding of key course topics, and to assist students in extracting key learning outcomes from the course material.

Your skills and attributes for success

You will have experience that will allow you to deliver on the following responsibilities:

  • To lead student group tutorial/coaching groups. These will be designed within a framework set by others and will incorporate specified learning outcomes. Tutors will be involved in discussing key points from tutorials/lectures and/or course materials within a clear and established programme. Tutorials/coaching groups may take a variety of forms including those appropriate to problem-based learning. (40%)
  • To carry out necessary prior reading and preparation on tutorial topics in order to be able to guide discussion and answer queries arising from set exercises. (20%)
  • To undertake marking, under supervision, of assignments. (20%)
  • To monitor student progress and provide feedback to the student, highlighting to the Course Organiser any concerns about student performance or pastoral issues. (15%)
  • To be aware of any Health & Safety, and welfare issues, and raise any concerns with the Course Organiser. (5%)
