Position: Visiting Music Teacher-Saxophone (Maternity Cover, 1 Year FTC from September 2026)
Location: City of Edinburgh

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Saxophone Teacher to serve as a Visiting Music Teacher (maternity cover) for the upcoming session. The successful candidate will deliver progressive programmes of study tailored to the individual pupils’ needs and encourage participation in the department’s extensive extra‑curricular programme in both Junior and Senior schools.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver lessons to pupils from P4 to S6, covering a wide range of styles from traditional repertoire to musical theatre.
  • Support the department’s two annual concerts in the Usher Hall (Christmas for Senior pupils and May for Junior pupils) and other performances in the Queen’s Hall, St Cuthbert’s Parish Church and St Giles’ Cathedral.
  • Prepare pupils for ABRSM and Trinity exams, as well as the National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher SQA exams’ performing element.
  • Assist in a Junior School Music Festival and a Senior House Music Competition.
  • Lessons take place on the school campus between 7:30 am and 4:00 pm, each lasting 30 minutes. Visiting teachers may set their own hours and availability within the available teaching spaces.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Experience as a saxophone teacher and a proven ability to design progressive learning programmes.
  • Interest and willingness to teach pupils from P4 to S6.
  • Ability to teach a wide range of musical styles, from traditional repertoire to musical theatre.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • The position is considered regulated work with vulnerable children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Successful candidates must obtain membership of the PVG scheme.
Employment Conditions

The role is a visiting position for maternity cover, and lessons are conducted within the school’s normal teaching hours. No on‑campus parking is available.
