UE03: £24,729 per annum pro rata

Part time: 6 hours per week

Technician

The Hudson Beare Engineering (HBE) Makerspace is a specialised facility providing a dedicated space for students from across the University to use a range of light manufacturing and workshop equipment for their project work. Working under the supervision of the dedicated Technician (makerspace supervisor) and the Makerspace Lab Manager (Chair of Student Innovation Advisory Group) the intern’s primary objective will be to contribute to the day-to-day operation of the Makerspace.

This will be achieved through supervision and supporting students using the space, assisting with equipment set-up and testing, documentation of processes and procedures, and implementation of supporting systems.

This internship offers the chance for a student intern to support other students and acquire significant hands‑on technical work experience as part of a team of highly skilled technical staff in support of this new and unique facility. It is anticipated that while the intern will collaborate with colleagues on certain activities, they will be assigned specific work tasks that fit with their interests, knowledge and experience.

Employ.ed on Campus is run by the Careers Service in collaboration with university departments and Schools. It offers exclusive semester internships at the University for 2nd year to penultimate year undergraduate students from the University of Edinburgh.

A positive and flexible approach is a requirement of this role, with the intern participating in a range of activities across the School of Engineering’s laboratories and workshops.
