Position: Junior School Teacher of Support for Learning
Location: City of Edinburgh

We are seeking an enthusiastic, caring and engaging Support for Learning Teacher to join the teaching team at The Edinburgh Academy Junior School.

Our Support for Learning team works alongside the Class Teacher team to support effectively the children, staff and parents throughout the school. They work to assist with the implementation and delivery of the curriculum for all children requiring additional support. The successful candidate for this position will be working primarily with children in Primary 5 and 6 but a collaborative approach and a willingness to share skills and experience across the Support for Learning team are essential.

It would be ideal for the candidate to have some form of additional support needs qualification; however, this is not essential. We would ask that candidates are willing to undertake further professional learning or training as appropriate.

The Junior School and Nursery sits in its own self-contained campus in leafy Inverleith next to the Botanic Gardens, providing the ideal environment for our youngest learners. Members of the Support for Learning Team help ensure our all children have the best possible opportunity to learn and flourish.

Main Responsibilities:

To consult with the relevant Head of Department and Class Teachers and collaboratively identify pupils who may require additional support for learning
To plan, prepare and teach targeted lessons to identified pupils or provide differentiated teaching and materials based on Class Teacher plans to support children to access the curriculum effectively
To work collaboratively with the class teacher in the classroom setting and/or work with smaller groups/individuals in a Support for Learning base.
To assess, monitor, record and report on the progress of pupils to the relevant Head of Department, Class Teachers and parents.
To compile Support for learning profiles for individual children as required.
To liaise with external agencies and implement plans or recommendations as appropriate.
To advise on additional support materials and strategies for children with individual learning differences, such as ASD.
To advise on additional support material for EAL pupils.
To foster good working relationships with pupils and colleagues in all aspects of school life.
To attend and participate in staff meetings and professional learning sessions.
To demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional learning and changes in current legislation.
To perform a twenty-minute break duty each week.
To eat with and supervise a group of children at lunch.
To commit to the co-curricular programme.
To carry out any reasonable additions to this list as deemed necessary by the Headteacher.
