Elementary School, Teacher Assistant/ Paraprofessional
Kev's Class is a tutoring centre in Edinburgh, but if you're picturing rows of desks and stressed kids cramming for exams, think again.
We've built something different here. A calm, supportive space where children come to grow in confidence, not just chase grades. We work with young people from Primary through to Secondary, delivering tailored sessions in person at our Kingsknowe centre and online with families across the UK and beyond. Everything we do is grounded in one belief: when a child genuinely believes in themselves, the learning takes care of itself.
The same philosophy applies to our team. We don't pile pressure on our tutors. We invest in them, support them, and build something together over the long term. If that sounds like the kind of place you want to work, keep reading.
What the role actually looks likeWe're looking for tutors to join us. We're not chasing a specific profile. Whether you're a recent graduate taking your first steps in education, a qualified teacher who wants something more flexible, or an experienced tutor looking for a better environment, we're genuinely open to all of it.
What we care about is that you're warm, patient, and motivated by something more than just getting through the lesson plan. Our learners often arrive with a complicated relationship with school. Your job is to help them rebuild their confidence, one session at a time.
You'll be delivering sessions in English, Maths, or both, across primary and high school levels. Every session is tailored to the learner in front of you, so adaptability matters as much as subject knowledge. We have both private and mixed age group sessions along with holiday camps and events.
Hours are flexible. If you're looking for a handful of sessions alongside other commitments, we can make that work. If you want to grow into a bigger role over time with more hours and more responsibility, that opportunity is here too. We're hiring because we're building something for the long term, and we want people who see it the same way.
Whatwe're looking for
- A warm, encouraging personality that puts children at ease
- Strong subject knowledge in English and Maths (Primary and High School)
- The patience and adaptability to meet each child where they are
- An ability to build trust with learners who may have had difficult experiences in school
- Familiarity with the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence (helpful but not essential, we'll support you)
- A relevant degree or equivalent experience in education, psychology, or a related field
- Someone comfortable being part of an active, visible brand. We share a lot of what we do on social media, and you'll be part of that world
- This role is subject to a satisfactory PVG check, which we will arrange and cover on your behalf
- £15 per hour with paid planning time on top
- Flexible scheduling so you work hours that genuinely suit your life
- A calm, supportive working environment where you're looked after, not just managed
- Real relationships with your students, so you actually get to see the difference you're making
- Access to our resource bank and online learning platforms
- Clear opportunities to take on more hours, more responsibility, and grow within the organisation as we expand
- Company pension
- Private health insurance for long-term team members
- A team that actually enjoys what it does
