Role Overview
As a Test Engineer within the Test Environments area of the Future Combat Air Line of Business, you will support the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) – the 6th Generation fighter aircraft, Tempest, which will replace the Royal Air Force Typhoon fleet by 2035.
Key objectives include developing robust test solutions (rigs, integrated test systems, bespoke software, and test frameworks), integrating physical and synthetic test capabilities, and providing subject‑matter expertise to shape GCAP’s overall test strategy.
What You’ll Do
- Provide test engineering expertise across test environments, including physical development, digital development, and real‑world application.
- Develop physical and synthetic test solutions across multiple levels (SRI/LRI, bench integration, full systems integration, hardware‑in‑the‑loop, simulation modelling).
- Gather and incorporate requirements from technical stakeholders to support the programme’s Test, Evaluation and Acceptance plans, defining schedules, dependencies, constraints, and opportunities.
- Represent Leonardo as a subject‑matter expert on test engineering, liaise with UK and international stakeholders, and influence future ways of working for GCAP.
- Support synthetic environment trials and facilitate their translation into airborne trials, working with procurement, future factory, IT, and other stakeholders.
- Implement and deliver test environments (processes, methods, tools, technology, people) into GCAP using a systematic approach.
What You’ll Bring
- Proven industry experience in simulation and modelling (e.g., Simulink).
- A degree in a relevant science, technology, engineering, or maths discipline, or equivalent experience.
Additional skills that will set you apart:
- Proven industry experience as a test engineer.
- Digital twin software experience.
- Systems process knowledge.
- Verification and validation process knowledge.
- Systems engineering life cycle knowledge.
We value a positive attitude and willingness to learn above all.
