About Us
The Northern Lighthouse Board is the General Lighthouse Authority for Scotland and the Isle of Man, responsible for the superintendence and management of all lighthouses, buoys and beacons within those waters. We have provided this vital safety service to mariners since 1786.
The Role – Overview
Based at the NLB’s Headquarters in central Edinburgh (with the option of hybrid working), as Principal Electrical Engineer you will be accountable for technical oversight of all NLB Electrical Systems in or on Aids to Navigation, Buildings, and Berths. This includes definition of planned and unplanned maintenance and renewal programmes, Electrical competency and training specifications, monitoring and implementation of relevant new technologies and be the technical approver of design and quality of electrical work.
The Principal Electrical Engineer must also act as the Electrical Authorising Engineer with respect to the NLB Electrical Safety Rules
Salary and Benefits
- £66,720 per annum rising to £72,669 after 1 year in post.
· A Civil Service Pension with an average employer contribution of 28%
· Annual Leave allowance of 25 days, rising by 1 day per year of service up to 30 days

Qualifications/ Experience Required
· Chartered Electrical Engineer with associated knowledge of current electrical standards and associated legislation
· Significant electrical system management experience and achievement.
· Working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, quality and processes.
· Ability to negotiate and communicate at a Senior Management Team level.
