Position Overview
UE05: £29,588 – £33,951 per annum. Full time 35 hours (Mon‑Fri 09:00‑17:00). Open‑ended contract, permanent. School of Engineering – CSE.
We are seeking a versatile and enthusiastic Support Technician to join the Technical Services team, responsible for delivering technical services and support across civil and mechanical engineering laboratories, research projects, and practical lab classes for undergraduate students.
Responsibilities- Provide technical support for civil and mechanical engineering laboratories and workshops.
- Assist with the delivery of research projects and practical lab classes for undergraduate students.
- Maintain and service laboratory and workshop equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
- Implement health & safety procedures, including risk assessments and COSHH compliance.
- Transfer knowledge and practical skills to undergraduate and postgraduate students and staff, including technicians and apprentices.
- Extensive work experience in a relevant engineering environment.
- Qualifications in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., recognised apprenticeship, NVQ, or O/HNC).
- Technical abilities across civil and mechanical engineering, structural testing, materials science, additive manufacturing, fabrication, thermal joining, machining, analytical instrumentation, and CAD/technical drawing.
- Familiarity with health & safety documentation and procedures in a laboratory/workshop environment.
- Passion for engineering.
- Good practical skills and experience.
- Experience in technical fault‑finding and problem‑solving.
- Good awareness of health & safety regulations and procedures in a laboratory/workshop environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
