At National Grid
, we’re not just connecting energy – we’re transforming how it’s delivered. As part of The Great Grid Upgrade, we’re investing in critical offshore infrastructure to power a cleaner, more secure future.

This is your opportunity to shape sustainable offshore projects at scale –
protecting marine environments, reducing environmental impact, and delivering infrastructure that leaves a positive legacy for generations to come.

You’ll be aligned to major offshore infrastructure projects across the East coast of England and Scotland, working at the forefront of the Strategic Infrastructure portfolio. This is a role that goes beyond the office – you’ll spend time on‑site, engaging directly with Marine Operational Safety, project teams, and supply chain partners, seeing the real‑world impact of your work.

With flexible hybrid working and access to offices in Warwick, London, Leeds and Edinburgh
, you’ll have the freedom to work in a way that supports both collaboration and autonomy.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll ensure sustainability is not an afterthought – but built into every stage of delivery.

  • Lead the integration of environmental and sustainability principles across offshore and marine activities
  • Translate strategy and commitments into real, on‑the‑ground impact
  • Act as the marine E&S subject‑matter expert, advising project teams, contractors and stakeholders
  • Drive delivery of marine carbon reduction and nature enhancement initiatives
  • Embed environmental controls across surveys, engineering and procurement
  • Use data, insight and assurance to manage risk and unlock opportunities
  • Work with subsea cable and marine partners to raise environmental standards across the sector
  • Champion innovation and industry best practice
What we’re looking for

You combine technical credibility with a genuine passion for sustainability and environmental stewardship.

  • Experience in environmental or sustainability roles within offshore or major infrastructure projects
  • Strong knowledge of maritime regulations (e.g. ISM Code, SOLAS, MARPOL)
  • Understanding of UK and EU marine environmental legislation and consenting frameworks
  • Proven ability to influence across complex project environments
  • Ability to translate strategy into action and measurable outcomes
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent), ideally with ISEP (or similar) membership
Why this role matters

Offshore infrastructure is critical to the UK’s energy future – but it must be delivered responsibly.

In this role, you’ll help ensure

  • Marine ecosystems are protected and enhanced
  • Environmental impacts are minimised across the project lifecycle
  • Sustainability is embedded into every decision we make
What you’ll get

A competitive salary between £54,000 – £65,000 – dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a company car, a bonus based on personal performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
