FPGA Engineer

Salary: £93, per year

• Degree (BSc, BEng, MEng, MSc, PhD) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or a related field
• Ability to analyse system-level requirements and derive detailed firmware requirements
• Experience in firmware design techniques and tools, from VHDL to place-and-route
• Experience with FPGA architectures such as system-on-chip, for example Xilinx Versal
• Proficiency in specifying timing and area constraints for FPGA place-and-route
• Experience integrating and debugging complex systems involving firmware, hardware, and software
• Experience working in mixed-discipline teams
• Five years of UK residency and the capability to achieve full SC security clearance
• Desirable: experience with auto-generated code using model-driven engineering tools like MATLAB and Simulink
• Desirable: proficiency in design tools such as Verilog, System Verilog, and UVM
• Desirable: experience with Siemens tools like HDL Designer and Questa Sim
• Desirable: familiarity with tools like DOORs and Req Tracer
• Desirable: experience within the defence industry

• Develop high-performance firmware for critical surveillance radar solutions
• Support requirement capture, architecture definition, design maturation, integration, and qualification for next-generation surveillance radars
• Analyse system-level requirements and capture or derive detailed firmware requirements
• Use firmware design techniques and tools, from VHDL to place-and-route
• Specify timing and area constraints for efficient FPGA place-and-route
• Integrate and debug complex systems where firmware interacts with hardware and software
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery
• Mentor junior team members to enhance their firmware development skills

We are a prominent name in the Defence & Security sector and are seeking a contract FPGA Engineer to join our Surveillance Sector team. In this role, you will help develop firmware and FPGA solutions that support both proven surveillance radar systems and next-generation technologies. The position is based on-site in Edinburgh, with a minimum of three days per week onsite and additional onsite time as project needs require.
