Principal Civil Engineer - Water

About the Role

Stantec is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to join our Water Team in Glasgow or Edinburgh, working under Technical Leads to deliver engineering design across the full project lifecycle for Scottish Water. The role focuses on wastewater infrastructure, sewerage, treated water storage and transmission mains, potable and wastewater treatment, sustainable drainage systems and bioresources, supporting Scottish Water’s net‑zero carbon ambitions while mentoring junior engineers.

• Provide technical consultancy and engineering design capability during concept and definition stages and support Asset Delivery Partners during detailed design and delivery.
• Lead client engagement and collaboration, maintaining a client‑facing presence throughout project phases.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers within the team.
• Contribute to the delivery of community‑focused projects such as wastewater infrastructure, sewer flooding and pollution projects, sustainable urban drainage and surface water management initiatives.

• Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Actively pursuing Chartered status with ICE, CIWEM, or a comparable professional body.
• Demonstrated experience in water and environment projects, particularly wastewater infrastructure and sustainable drainage.
• Strong passion for the Water and Environment sector and a proven ability to develop innovative solutions within project teams.
• Experience in a client‑facing role, leading regular client engagement and collaboration.
