We are the world’s trusted infrastructure consulting firm, delivering professional services across the project lifecycle — from advisory, planning, design and engineering to program and construction management.
Our Ground Engineering team partners with public and private clients to investigate ground conditions, manage geohazards, and design resilient, sustainable solutions that enable major infrastructure and development.
We are searching for an Engineering Geologist to join us at AECOM and to undertake the planning and delivery of high‑quality ground investigations, transform data into actionable insight, and support multi‑disciplinary teams across landmark projects.
You will gain exposure from desk study through delivery — including site supervision, data management, and interpretive reporting — with clear pathways for technical and chartership development.
Here’s what you’ll do:- Plan and supervise ground investigations (scoping, method statements, logistics, permits) with a strong safety focus.
- Undertake soil/rock logging to BS 5930 and EC7; manage sampling, in‑situ testing, and groundwater monitoring.
- Coordinate and schedule laboratory testing; assure data quality and manage digital records (e.g., AGS).
- Prepare factual and interpretive reports, including geohazard assessments, ground models, and design inputs.
- Support options appraisal and preliminary design (foundations, earthworks, slopes, retaining structures) with geotechnical colleagues.
- Integrate with environmental, structures, highways, rail, water, and energy teams to deliver cohesive solutions.
- Apply CDM and H&S best practice on site; lead toolbox talks and promote a proactive safety culture.
- Mentor graduates and technicians; contribute to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
- Travel to project sites as required by commission needs.
- Degree in Geology/Engineering Geology/Earth Sciences (MSc preferred or equivalent experience).
- Progress toward, or interest in, chartership (CGeol/CEng) with a relevant professional body (e.g., Geol Soc, ICE).
- Working knowledge of UK investigation standards and guidance (BS 5930, EC7, CDM); familiarity with GI methods and plant.
- Experience preparing desk studies, supervising site works, and authoring factual/interpretive reports.
- Data and digital skills (e.g., AGS data, Open Ground/gINT/HoleBASE); experience with GIS desirable.
- Desirable: exposure to geotechnical analysis tools (e.g., Slope/W, PLAXIS 2D), ground modelling, and risk assessment.
- Full UK driving licence (or local equivalent) and willingness to travel for site work
All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
