Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: City of Edinburgh

Are you motivated to identify EHS and ESG risks and translate them into clear, transaction-focused advice that helps clients make informed buy‑side or sell‑side decisions? Do you enjoy supporting Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and ESG reviews—combining desk research and site visits—to produce concise, client-focused due diligence reports? Are you organised and collaborative, able to support project management and proposal development while coordinating specialist inputs to meet tight M&A deadlines?

If this sounds like you, then this role could be a perfect opportunity. Join our CST Due Diligence UK & Ireland team as our new Environmental Consultant for Due Diligence and help close the gap to a sustainable future.

Your new role

As an Environmental Consultant for Due Diligence (DD), you will be part of our busy UK transactions team supporting fast-paced UK and global M&A transactions. You will assist with the identification of key EHS and ESG risks and opportunities and provide high-quality, targeted advice to clients on both buy‑side and sell‑side due diligence projects.

Our team advises on transactions across a wide range of sectors, typically including industrial, commercial and infrastructure assets and businesses, often for finance sector clients. We work closely with in‑house specialists across several EHS and ESG disciplines to provide targeted due diligence advice. Our clients use this advice to support negotiations during the bidding process and to make informed, impactful decisions on sustainability priorities post‑acquisition.

You will play a key role in the team, principally delivering due diligence assessments, while also supporting project management and the development of client proposals.

Your key responsibilities will be:
  • Delivery of Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Limited Environmental Compliance Assessments for a range of sites, including commercial, warehouse and less complex manufacturing facilities, in support of buy‑side and sell‑side due diligence. This will include desk‑based research (review of data rooms and publicly available information), site visits, participation in management calls, interpretation of available information and preparation of focused client reports.
  • Supporting the delivery of Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Limited Environmental Compliance Assessments of more complex sites (e.g. manufacturing facilities).
  • Delivery of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) assessments of companies in support of buy‑side and sell‑side due diligence. This will include desk‑based research (review of data rooms and publicly available information), participation in management calls, interpretation of available information and preparation of client‑focused reports.
  • Supporting project management activities, including coordination of inputs, tracking deliverables and helping ensure deadlines are met.
  • Supporting the development of client proposals, including scope definition, fee inputs and preparation of proposal content.
About you

What matters most to us:

  • 3 to 4 years of practical work experience in other companies where you have personally been supported and/or delivered Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and ideally also ESG assessments.
  • Sound understanding of UK environmental regulations and a basic understanding of key environmental and sustainability regulations in Europe (e.g. CSRD, CBAM, etc.).
  • A degree in geosciences, natural sciences, environmental sciences or engineering, or a comparable qualification.
  • The ability to understand information quickly and work efficiently, proactively and autonomously.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to travel, typically within the UK and Ireland.
