Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

Salary: On application and dependent on experience

Location: Glasgow (80 St Vincent Street) or Edinburgh (1A Glenfinlas Street) with travel expected to site, as required.

Green Cat Hydrogen Limited (GCH) is a dynamic and innovative green hydrogen project developer. GCH focus on the deployment of electrolytic hydrogen projects as a key part of the global energy transition and de‑carbonisation strategy. The business works closely with sister companies through the planning, permitting/licensing, engineering and design and construction of green hydrogen projects.

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for a comprehensive range of mechanical engineering tasks, ensuring the highest standards of design, safety, and efficiency in our projects.

The Role:
  • Develop and implement design criteria for piping and mechanical equipment, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with industry standards.
  • Perform detailed calculations including piping stress, mechanical equipment and finite element analysis.
  • Participate in HAZID and HAZOP studies, and design machinery shutdown systems to comply with safety standards.
  • Design and implement hydrogen storage solutions, including high‑pressure tanks and storage systems; ensure safe storage and compliance with all relevant regulations and safety measures.
  • Develop mechanical equipment lists, material selection guides, and material selection diagrams (MSD).
  • Design equipment layouts and arrangements, piping layouts, sections, details, and utility station layouts.
  • Specify, select and maintain compressors and pumps; ensure efficient and reliable operation through predictive maintenance, developing and managing spare parts lists.
  • Create and maintain a variety of engineering documents and drawings including:
  • Tie‑in Drawings
  • Plot Plans and Key Plans
  • Piping Isometrics, Risk‑Based Inspection Isometrics, Vessel Trim Isometrics
  • Mechanical Standard Drawings and Details
  • Engineered Pipe Support Drawings
  • Work closely with project teams, engineering teams, and external stakeholders to define and meet project deliverables.
The ideal Candidate must have:
  • Minimum of 4+ years of experience in mechanical engineering.
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated success in designing and optimising mechanical and piping systems with a strong emphasis on safety and efficiency.
  • Expertise in performing detailed engineering calculations for piping and mechanical equipment.
  • Proficiency in developing and interpreting engineering drawings and documentation.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary, supported by a valid UK driving license.
  • Must possess the legal right to work full‑time in the United Kingdom, in perpetuity.
The Candidate would benefit from:

  • Familiarity with industry‑specific standards for piping and mechanical engineering.
  • Professional accreditation or active membership in recognised engineering institutions.
  • Experience with mentoring of junior engineers.
