Job Description
The AECOM Tunnelling team is seeking an experienced leader to head our growing Tunnelling and Underground Structures team. This role combines leadership, people management, technical engineering challenges in a fast‑paced sector, and client engagement. You will work closely with our London‑based team, contribute to UK tunnelling strategy, and support the delivery of projects from a technical perspective.
Job Duties- Safety – ensure safety is the primary concern for all team members, conduct risk assessments, implement control measures and encourage incident reporting.
- Stakeholder Relationships – coordinate business development activities, develop and maintain relationships with public sector and contractor clients, lead proposal production and review commercial proposals.
- Quality Control – provide accurate data and forecasts to the Regional Lead, report safety, financial performance, pipeline and any operational issues.
- Leadership – define and influence workplace culture, set communication tone, raise morale, improve productivity and maintain a supportive environment.
- Collaboration – foster collaboration, create inclusive work environment, set team goals, and maintain relationships with clients to position AECOM for tender work.
- Degree or equivalent in Civil, Geotechnical or related engineering; postgraduate leadership experience in a tunnelling team.
- Chartered Engineer (EI, ICE, IStructE or equivalent).
- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with rock and soft ground tunnels, shafts, deep excavations for transportation, energy and utilities.
- Experience on large, multi‑disciplinary projects and ability to engage across disciplines; willingness to take on technical lead, design manager, project manager roles and bids.
