We are seeking an Engineering Technician to join our R&D team, contributing to new product development and continuous product testing. This is an excellent opportunity to help lead R&D in roof-integrated solar PV and fire safety testing.
What you will be doing- Product Development:
Supporting new products from prototype build and type approval through to production functional testing. - Product Improvement:
Supporting existing product lines through continuous improvement, including pre-production quality control (QC) batches and diagnostic testing. - Compliance & Certification:
Participating in testing and certification processes for new and existing products. - Test Logistics:
Planning and managing the logistics of third-party testing. - Field Support:
Assisting with field trials and early-stage installations of new products. - Partner
Collaboration:
Working closely with manufacturing partners for testing and validation. - Facility Management:
Maintaining R&D laboratory facilities, test rigs, and equipment.
- Testing Ownership:
You will take full ownership of product testing and accreditation processes at both national and international levels. - Proactive Problem Solving:
You will independently propose, design, and construct test rigs as part of the root-cause analysis and problem-solving process.
- Relevant
Experience:
A minimum of 3 years’ hands‑on experience in mechanical and electrical engineering design and product testing. - Practical & Workshop
Skills:
Proven experience in assembling and testing prototypes, including the design and fabrication of custom test rigs. Proficiency with workshop tools is essential. - Product Development Knowledge: A good understanding of the product development lifecycle, type approvals, and product certification.
- Data & Reporting:
Ability to accurately record test data, prepare structured technical reports, and communicate findings clearly across the team. - Analytical Mindset:
Excellent problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail. - IT Proficiency:
Strong IT literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel. - Flexibility:
Willingness to undertake occasional travel within the UK and overseas.
- A vocational qualification (e.g., NVQ, HNC, HND, or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Direct experience in electrical or fire safety testing.
