Civic is a team of system thinkers in the built environment, creating positive impact for people, places and the planet.

We want our work to have a positive impact on the environment — helping people to live healthier, happier lives while respecting natural limits. We build without destroying, explore without exploiting, and seek to reuse rather than just consume. Above all, we listen, learn, and aim to create a lasting legacy.

Thriving together, today we have a team of over 200 members working across the UK, all united by our creative belief, bringing art and science together to solve problems. Our award-winning practice has studios in Manchester, London, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dublin.

We are looking for an experienced Associate Civil Engineer to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a Chartered Engineer to take a leading role in the delivery of a diverse portfolio of projects across the UK, including residential, education, commercial, development and regeneration projects.

As an Associate, you will lead teams of engineers and technicians, oversee the successful delivery of multiple projects, and work closely with senior colleagues to support business growth, team development and strategic planning. You will collaborate with public and private sector clients, multidisciplinary teams and industry partners to deliver high-quality engineering solutions that create positive outcomes for communities and the built environment.

Alongside project delivery, you will play an important role in developing client relationships, identifying new opportunities and supporting the continued growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of civil engineering design across a range of projects and sectors.
  • Identify project challenges and opportunities, guiding teams to develop effective and innovative solutions.
  • Coordinate and review high-quality technical drawings, reports, calculations and presentations.
  • Undertake technical reviews and quality assurance checks on your own work and the work of others.
  • Oversee the preparation and presentation of technical information and project documentation.
  • Ensure the effective use of relevant engineering analysis, modelling and design software.
  • Conduct internal project reviews and contribute to technical excellence across the wider team.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations 2015 and the company’s Quality Management System (QMS).
Project and Team Management
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, overseeing programmes, deliverables, resources and project fees.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor project progress and effectively manage project changes throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Plan and allocate resources to ensure successful and efficient project delivery.
  • Lead, mentor and support the development of engineers and technicians.
  • Contribute to wider team development through knowledge-sharing activities, presentations and training initiatives.
  • Maintain strong commercial awareness and support the financial performance of projects.
  • Contribute to business planning, project forecasting and strategic discussions.
Business Development
  • Support business development activities within the team and across the wider business.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, collaborators and industry contacts.
  • Identify potential opportunities and work with Directors and Associate Directors to pursue new business.
  • Represent the business at client meetings, networking events and industry forums.
  • Prepare and contribute to bids, tenders and fee proposals.
  • Promote the wider services of the practice and support cross-disciplinary collaboration.
