Responsibilities- Collaborate and Lead:
Work within a multi-disciplinary team on complex defined benefit modelling, utilising advanced actuarial skills and techniques to specialise in intricate UK pension solutions - Quality Assurance:
Check and review complex calculations, ensuring accuracy and clear communication of results to consultants and wider support teams - Drive Improvement:
Contribute to continuous improvement by developing and delivering knowledge-sharing initiatives, training sessions, and coordinating new process rollouts across locations - Build Relationships:
Partner with internal teams to deliver a seamless service across different lines of business within Mercer - Support and Develop:
Play a key role in developing junior colleagues, supporting performance reviews, training, and personal development plans; inspire and motivate the team fostering a culture of excellence and accountability - Client Engagement:
Develop consulting skills by engaging directly with clients on actuarial projects - Project Involvement:
Participate in actuarial projects including pension scheme valuations, risk assessments, and benefit design initiatives, applying actuarial techniques to deliver tailored solutions - Team Leadership:
Set clear objectives for the team, facilitate regular meetings, discuss progress, share insights, and address challenges to ensure alignment with organisational goals
- Qualified or part-qualified actuary
- Experience in technical calculations for actuarial projects
- Strong understanding of UK Defined Benefit pension schemes and experience in benefit calculations
- Excellent analytical, numerical, and critical thinking skills with a solid grasp of actuarial approaches for pensions
- People management skills
- Previous experience in a similar actuarial role within a pensions team, with focus on technical aspects and exposure to consultants and client support teams
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team while fostering collaboration and high performance
