Job Description

Purpose of the role:
To manage and optimise the bank's overall credit risk exposure by monitoring, analysing, and reporting on the creditworthiness of its lending portfolio.

Accountabilities
  • Monitor the financial performance and risk profile of the entire lending portfolio, including individual borrowers, sectors, and geographic regions.
  • Analyse credit trends, identify early warning signs of potential borrowers’ issues, and assess the impact of economic and market developments on the portfolio.
  • Develop and utilise quantitative models and risk forecasting tools to measure and predict potential credit losses.
  • Perform portfolio stress testing exercises to assess the impact of various economic and market scenarios on the portfolio’s risk profile.
  • Define and set portfolio, segment and customer risk appetite, policy and limits.
  • Oversee first line execution within these parameters.

Role Overview

Join us as a Credit Risk Portfolio Senior Analyst where you will help shape the future of banking by monitoring and managing credit risk across lending products such as loans and credit cards. The role involves running SAS scripts, producing regular reporting and insight packs for senior management, and supporting decision making through accurate analysis.

To be successful as a Credit Risk Portfolio Analyst you will have:

  • Strong credit risk and financial analysis skills, with the ability to assess and interpret financial performance and risk indicators.
  • Experience querying and analysing data from relational databases using SAS/SQL, alongside strong advanced Excel capabilities.
  • Proven experience working as an analyst, with the ability to operate as a proactive self‑starter.
  • Experience using programming or analytical languages to run coding scripts and analyse, interpret, and validate data outputs.
  • Considerable ability to understand, interpret, and identify trends and patterns within complex datasets.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills, with strong numerical capability and a logical, structured approach to analysis.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with key colleagues and stakeholders.

Some desirable skills include:

  • Experience working within a Financial Services environment, with an understanding of regulated business contexts.

This role can be based in Edinburgh or Glasgow.
