Board Treasurer opportunity for National Children’s Charity

Could you use your financial expertise to help children and family wellbeing across Scotland?

Fathers Network Scotland is seeking a Treasurer to join its Board of Trustees. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional to use their skills to support a respected Scottish charity and help shape its strategic direction.

Fathers Network Scotland improves children’s lives through the positive involvement of dads, father‑figures & whole families.

This is a voluntary role requiring attendance at six 2-hour Board meetings each year, held in Edinburgh and online. Support and induction will be provided.

The Treasurer supports the Board in maintaining financial oversight and helps achieve the charity’s financial objectives.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide financial oversight and strategic guidance to the Board.
  • Review and present budgets, management accounts and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure appropriate financial controls, policies and reserves are in place.
  • Support compliance with charity and company legislation, including OSCR and Companies House requirements.
  • Work with staff and fellow trustees to ensure the organisation remains financially sustainable.
  • Contribute to the organisation's long-term financial planning and income generation strategy.

What we’re looking for

  • A background in finance, accountancy or financial management.
  • The ability to interpret financial information and provide strategic financial oversight.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.
  • Previous trustee or board experience would be welcomed but is not essential. Training and support will be provided.

Time commitment

  • Board meetings are held approximately every six weeks (around two hours), with a summer break.
  • Meetings are held in central Edinburgh, with remote attendance available.
  • Additional time is required to review board papers, support the annual accounts process and attend the AGM.

Applicants must be eligible to act as a charity trustee under Scottish charity law.
