Location: Hybrid - 3 day a month in Edinburgh

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a respected public sector organisation in a senior leadership position, helping to shape financial sustainability across Scotland's universities and colleges. With only three days a month required in the office
, this role offers exceptional flexibility and is open to candidates from across the UK who are happy to travel occasionally.

As Assistant Director of Institutional Financial Health, you will lead a high-performing team responsible for monitoring the financial resilience of institutions, providing strategic financial advice, and supporting organisations to strengthen their long-term financial planning and governance.

The Role
  • Lead and develop a team of Finance Business Partners and Finance Trainees
  • Oversee the financial health and governance of a portfolio of higher and further education institutions
  • Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, providing strategic financial advice and constructive challenge
  • Produce high-quality financial analysis and reports to support executive and board-level decision making
  • Work closely with government, auditors and sector partners on financial governance and long-term planning
About You

You will be a fully qualified accountant with strong post-qualified experience, excellent leadership skills and the ability to communicate complex financial information to a wide range of stakeholders.

Experience in higher education, the public sector or finance business partnering would be advantageous but is not essential.
