The Senior Numismatic Specialist will play a key role in establishing and developing Atkinsons Bullion & Coins' Edinburgh branch. Combining specialist numismatic knowledge with strong commercial awareness and leadership capability, the successful candidate will provide expert guidance to clients, support the acquisition of high-value coins and collectables, and contribute to the successful day-to-day operation of the branch.
The role will involve building trusted relationships with clients, assessing and evaluating numismatic items, supporting purchasing decisions, ensuring compliance with Company procedures and maintaining the highest standards of professionalism within a secure, high-value environment.
As one of the founding members of the Edinburgh branch, the successful candidate will contribute to establishing the culture, standards and reputation of the branch. As the branch develops, the role is expected to evolve to include increased operational and people management responsibilities, including providing leadership and support to the Client & Acquisitions Executive.
Key Responsibilities:
Specialist Numismatic Knowledge & Client Relationships
• Provide specialist knowledge and guidance relating to coins, banknotes, precious metals and collectable items.
• Build trusted relationships with collectors, investors and clients.
• Assess, identify and evaluate coins, collections and other numismatic items.
• Support purchasing decisions by applying specialist knowledge, market awareness and commercial judgement.
• Provide professional advice and guidance to clients throughout the acquisition process.
• Identify opportunities to develop client relationships and introduce relevant Company products and services.
• Maintain awareness of market trends, industry developments and customer expectations.
Acquisitions & Branch Operations
• Oversee and support the acquisition process from initial client enquiry through to completion
• Ensure client transactions are completed accurately, eiciently and in accordance with Company procedures.
• Support the Client & Acquisitions Executive with complex queries and specialist assessments.
• Ensure purchased goods are accurately recorded, processed and managed in line with Company procedures.
• Support stock accuracy and maintain high standards of product information.
• Assist with the smooth operation of the Edinburgh branch.
• Ensure client appointments and branch activities are managed eectively.
Compliance & Governance
• Ensure all customer due diligence and compliance requirements are completed accurately.
• Maintain accurate records relating to customer transactions and acquired goods.
• Comply with Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Know Your Customer (KYC) and Company compliance procedures.
• Identify and escalate unusual transactions, concerns or risks appropriately.
• Promote a culture of accuracy, integrity and professionalism.
Branch Leadership & Development
• Support the successful establishment and ongoing development of the Edinburgh branch.
• Act as a senior point of contact for operational queries and decision-making.
• Provide guidance, support and knowledge-sharing to the Client & Acquisitions Executive.
• Support the onboarding, training and development of colleagues.
• Help establish consistent working practices, procedures and service standards.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider business to ensure alignment of processes and expectations.
• Contribute ideas and recommendations to improve customer experience, operational eficiency and commercial performance.
Future Branch Management Responsibilities
As the Edinburgh branch develops, the role is expected to evolve to include broader operational and people management responsibilities. This may include:
• Providing day-to-day leadership and direction to branch employees.
• Supporting recruitment, onboarding and training activities.
• Conducting regular performance discussions and supporting employee development.
• Managing workow, priorities and branch activity.
• Taking responsibility for maintaining branch standards and objectives.
• Acting as a key point of contact for branch operations.
