Summaryof Role
To provide personal tax compliance and administrative support to the Tax Department by assisting on a portfolio of deceased estates, individual clients and trusts, assisting in the preparation of Self-Assessment tax returns and providing tax administration support, including liaising with HMRC. The role requires an understanding of UK personal taxation, including Scottish Income Tax, and a commitment to delivering excellent client service.
KeyTasks Personal Tax Compliance
- Assist with the preparation of self-assessment tax returns and informal tax reporting for estates.
- Assist with the preparation of self-assessment tax returns for individuals.
- Assist with the preparation of self-assessment tax returns for trusts.
- Prepare personal tax computations and supporting schedules.
- Review client information for completeness and accuracy.
- Calculate tax liabilities and payments due.
- Monitor filing deadlines and assist in managing workflow across the client portfolio.
- Correspond with HMRC regarding client affairs.
- Resolve routine tax queries and compliance matters.
- Monitor HMRC notices and ensure appropriate action is taken.
- Support work relating to:
- Scottish Income Tax
- Capital Gains Tax
- Property taxation
- Trust taxation
- Maintain accurate client records and tax software databases.
- Manage workflow and document management systems.
- Ensure compliance with internal quality control procedures.
- Support billing and engagement administration processes where required.
- Maintain and develop technical tax knowledge.
- Attend internal and external training sessions.
- Work towards a relevant professional qualification.
- Keep up to date with changes in tax legislation and HMRC practice.
- Strong academic background including Mathematics and English.
- You are personable and good at building and developing client relationships.
- Experience dealing with tax reporting for deceased estates.
- Experience preparing Self-Assessment tax returns.
- Experience dealing with HMRC correspondence.
- Experience working to deadlines within a professional services environment.
- Experience using tax software and Microsoft Office applications.
