Pertemps are delighted to be working in partnership with our public sector client to recruit experienced an Environmental Health Officer and Food Safety Officer to support their Food Safety Team.

Role: Environmental Health Officer and Food Safety Officer
Location: Edinburgh
Hours: Flexible (Full Time/Part Time)
Rate: £40 – £55 per hour (dependent on experience)
Duration: Temporary Ongoing
Start Date: Immediate

About the Role

Our client requires experienced Food Safety / Environmental Health professionals to undertake a programme of mainly medium-risk food hygiene inspections
, alongside some unrated premises.
This is a hands‑on role suited to officers confident in operating independently, managing inspections, and ensuring compliance in line with current Scottish legislation and codes of practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carrying out Food Law inspections and interventions
  • Risk rating premises in line with the Food Law Code of Practice (Scotland) and local authority procedures
  • Reviewing casework, enforcement notices and actions to ensure legal compliance and consistency
  • Managing service requests, complaints and investigations with proportionate and timely responses
  • Serving statutory enforcement notices where required
  • Preparing reports for submission to the Procurator Fiscal
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and inspection records
What We’re Looking For
  • Qualified Environmental Health Officer or Food Safety Officer
  • Hold the Professional Diploma in Environmental Health or the Higher Certificate in Food Practice (or equivalent), in line with REHIS or CIEH requirements
  • Proven track record conducting food hygiene inspections
  • Confident working autonomously in a regulatory environment
  • Strong knowledge of current food safety legislation
  • Excellent report writing and enforcement skills
Desirable
  • Experience working within a Scottish local authority
  • Previous enforcement experience

All qualifications will be validated with the relevant professional body where required.
